About EntrepreNEWS

EntrepreNEWS is a monthly section of BusinessWorld, updated weekly, that features stories of interest to Philippine micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

According to the Department of Trade and Industry, SMEs make up 99.6% of all registered firms nationwide, employ 69.9% of the labor force, and contribute 32% to the economy.

Because BusinessWorld is a publication devoted to "competent and responsible reporting of the news," these numbers provide the impetus to give SMEs dedicated coverage on print and on the Web.

With the birth of EntrepreNEWS, BusinessWorld hopes to become not only a source of information but a venue for exchanging ideas and sharing of best practices.

Coverage is focused on the five core elements identified by the National Government in the SME agenda: financing, human resource development and entrepreneurship training; market development; product development; and advocacy for enabling environment.

EntrepreNEWS mainstays range from the practical to the theoretical in scope. While tips on starting businesses and capturing the right market are surely of interest, larger issues that affect SMEs on a grander scale must also be addressed.

Aside from these stories, expect insightful industry-specific views written by EntrepreNEWS columnists who are all respected figures in the local community of entrepreneurs.

EntrepreNEWS online features all the content in the print version, along with additional stories and enhancements.

In the spirit of Web 2.0 and user-generated content, BusinessWorld invites you to join the conversation regarding the issues and concerns facing the SME sector today. Your comments will eventually steer the conversation to the topics you find most interesting and helpful.

EntrepreNEWS is envisioned to become a full-blown social medium and networking site that will allow you to expand business opportunities and link up with fellow entrepreneurs.

This dynamic and collective effort is BusinessWorld’s attempt to address the changing needs of the business community.
