EntrepreNEWS is a monthly section of BusinessWorld featuring stories of interest to Philippine micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Department of Trade and Industry figures show that MSMEs make up 99.6% of all registered firms nationwide, employ 63% of the labor force, and contribute 35.7% of sales and value-added in manufacturing to the economy.
As BusinessWorld is devoted to "competent and responsible reporting of the news," these numbers provide the impetus to give SMEs dedicated coverage on print and on the Web.
Through EntrepreNEWS, BusinessWorld hopes to become not only a source of information but also a venue for exchanging ideas and sharing best practices.
Coverage is focused on five core elements identified by the national government in the SME agenda: financing; human resource development and entrepreneurship training; market development; product development; and advocacy for enabling environment.
EntrepreNEWS mainstays range from the practical to the theoretical in scope. While tips on starting businesses and capturing the right market are surely of interest, larger issues that affect SMEs on a grander scale must also be addressed.
Aside from these stories, expect insightful industry-specific views written by EntrepreNEWS columnists who are respected figures in the local community of entrepreneurs.
In the spirit of Web 2.0 and user-generated content, BusinessWorld invites you to join the conversation regarding the issues and concerns facing the SME sector today. Your comments will eventually steer the conversation to the topics you find most interesting and helpful.
EntrepreNEWS can thus serve as a networking site that will allow you to expand business opportunities and link up with fellow entrepreneurs.
This dynamic and collective effort is BusinessWorld’s attempt to address the changing needs of the business community.
This website also publishes selected articles from the print edition of BusinessWorld Special Features, which covers various topics and industries, including but not limited to banking and finance, real estate, health, the environment, technology, and travel.
